Cookie Policy

What gocis.co.uk stores on your device, and how to change your mind at any time. This page is a description of what the site actually does, so it names each item rather than describing cookies in general.

The short version

gocis.co.uk sets no cookies of its own. Google Analytics is the only non-essential technology on this site, it is switched off until you accept it, and your answer to the banner is saved in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie.

You can check the first part of that yourself: nothing this site serves returns a Set-Cookie header. The rest of this page explains what does happen, in full. Our privacy policy covers everything else we do with personal information.

Cookies and the things that work like cookies

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep. Local storage does a similar job: it lets a site remember something between page loads. UK law treats the two the same way, so both are covered here.

Storage that is strictly necessary to deliver a page you asked for, or to keep the site secure, does not need your permission. Everything else, including analytics, needs your consent before it runs.

What this site actually stores

NameTypeWhat it is forExpiresConsent needed
bxcLocal storage, set by this siteRemembers whether you pressed "Accept all" or "Reject all", so the banner does not ask again on every page. It holds a version number, the date you chose, and two true or false flags for analytics and marketing. Nothing else, and no identifier for you.Until you clear this site's browser storageNo. It exists only to record the choice you made.
_ga, _ga_QSJR0WHN22Cookie, set by Google AnalyticsTells repeat visits apart so we can count visitors and see which pages are read. Set by Google, not by us.Up to 2 yearsYes. Only set once you press "Accept all".

That is the whole list. No advertising cookies, no retargeting pixels, no social media tracking pixels, no session recording, and no cross-site profiling. We do not set a security or bot-detection cookie either: this site returns no Set-Cookie header at all.

When a page loads, before any measurement tag runs, we tell Google that consent is denied. All four Google consent signals, covering analytics storage, advertising storage, advertising personalisation and advertising user data, start in a denied state. Only two signals start granted: the ones covering basic functionality and security, neither of which stores anything on your device on this site.

Google Analytics (property G-QSJR0WHN22) loads in that denied state. It sets no cookie and it does not even send a page view. We explicitly switch off the automatic page view for that reason, and send one only after you have accepted.

Press Accept all and we grant the analytics and advertising signals, and Analytics records that page view and the ones after it. Press Reject all and everything stays denied and nothing further happens.

One honest detail about that button. "Accept all" grants the three advertising signals as well as the analytics one, because it is a single all-or-nothing choice. No advertising or marketing tag exists on this site, so granting those signals switches nothing on today. If we ever add one, this page and the banner change first.

Your choice is stored in your browser and never sent to us. We do not know what you pressed.

Other companies a page load reaches

Loading a page means asking a few other companies for something. None of them sets a cookie on this site, but each necessarily learns your IP address, so they are listed here rather than left out.

WhoWhy the page reaches themWhat they receiveStorage
Google FontsServes the web fonts these pages are set in.Your IP address and basic browser details, so it can send the font file.No cookie. The request happens as the page renders, which is before you have answered the banner.
CloudflareHosts and delivers this site, and filters malicious traffic.Your IP address, as the network carrying the request. No cookie is set on this site. We checked.

Fonts are the one thing that loads before you have chosen anything. We cannot ask your permission before rendering the page you asked for, so we tell you instead.

Changing your mind

You can change your answer at any time, from this page:

Reopen the cookie banner

That link reopens the banner over this page so you can press "Accept all" or "Reject all" again. It works on every page of this site, not just this one. Choosing "Reject all" after previously accepting switches Google Analytics back off for later page views.

Clearing this site's storage in your browser also erases your saved choice, and the banner will ask you again on your next visit. Deleting a cookie that Google Analytics has already set is done through your browser's normal cookie controls, because that cookie belongs to Google rather than to us.

You can opt out of Google Analytics on every website at once with Google's browser add-on.
